States across the US have been passing age verification requirements for websites that contain content they deem harmful to minors. But it's difficult to know which state a website visitor is located in because websites are reliant on third-party databases that map IP addresses to physical locations. They each use their own data-gathering methods and some are better than others (though none are completely accurate).
While country-level data is extremely accurate, state-level data is only 55% to 80% accurate.
What that means: even if your state doesn't pass an age-verification law, one passed in a neighboring state can impact you!
